The
Los Angeles City College Sports Medicine Department plans, coordinates
and implements for the prevention, evaluation, therapeutic, rehabilitation,
and emergency medical care of student-athletes engaged in intercollegiate
sport programs at the college.
The
Sports Medicine Staff consists of two certified athletic trainers,
Robert Horowitz (Read Bio)
and Tresha San-Martin (Read
Bio), and a varied number of student athletic trainers.
An athletic trainer prevents injury or re-injury of intercollegiate
athletes by developing conditioning, flexibility and rehabilitative
programs; applying specialized protective strapping or bracing;
and administering therapeutic and emergency first aid to injured
athletes. Athletic training services are provided to all student-athletes
engaged in their current sport program during practices as well
as all home contest whether the site in on or off campus.
"The
LACC Department of Athletics' affiliation with the Division of
Sports Medicine at Kaiser Permanente (through its Department of
Family Medicine) enables the athletic training staff to provide
the student-athletes with on-site evaluations by specialists in
Sports Medicine. In conjunction with our Certified Athletic Trainers,
our team physicians add to our ability to provide continuity of
specialized medical care in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment
and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses facing our student-athletes.
